What is an ankle distortion actually?

An ankle distortion – also colloquially referred to as a “sprain” – is incurred when pain in the ankle joint region occurs after vigorous twisting. Frequently, the twisting takes place via the outer edge of the foot, accompanied by overstretching of the capsular and ligamentous apparatus of the joint.
Typical ankle joint distortion symptoms include severe pain, fast emerging swelling and restricted movement, bruising (haematoma) as well as pressure pain in the region of the injury. You can find further information here.
